DISCUSSION DAY

Hello my lovely readers! Emma's Eatery is going to try out something new, a DISCUSSION DAY- once a month. I really want to get some connection and chatter going on here on my blog. I get so much feedback verbally but I would love to hear what you have to say and to help encourage you to start a discussion among fellow readers, sharing your own ideas, not just mine!

So please take a minute to comment or share your thoughts on today's discussion day.

Today's discussion question:

Holiday's are special and different for everyone. How does food play a role in making your holidays special? Is it the preparation of food? Enjoying it with your family? Sharing it with friends? etc. Share your favourite stories, recipes or ideas here!

Let me know and let your fellow blog readers learn a thing or two from you!

  1. EATING THE FOOD and all the things you have suggested for this holiday season sounds just magnificent. I really hope I find the time to make a few!

  2. Cooking with my Dad! For as long as I can remember I've been fascinated by how he puts together Christmas dinner with so much ease and fun. When I was a kid I would stand by the stove and watch him make the gravy (my favourite part of dinner!) and as I grew up he started letting me help more and more. Now we do the whole dinner together and I look forward to it all year!

  3. Personally, it's not always the food that makes the Holidays. The delicious meals that come are just a great excuse to gather with family and friends. It's too seldom that we ask cook a large homemade dinner on a random Tuesday night and have our extended family over.

Let's also not foget the Holiday drinks! I'm talking EGGNOG. Anyone have a good recipe?

  4. There's been a few holiday disaster cooking stories but sometimes they make things that much better!:
One year our stove top caught fire, dad had to be the hero with the baking soda before the fire department came. Another time we had a little too much seasoning on the stuffing and the best was one time when the turkey had to go in the microwave.
Doesn't matter how good the food is, it always makes for some laughs and good stories.

  5. Personally I think that the best part of the holiday is family! Food is really just a bonus (but isnt bad either), preparing the food as a family, and then playing boardgames/ Christmas exchange after (my fam is really really into boardgames)! Oh and Christmas cookies :)

  6. Getting together with my family and sharing the cooking experience is something I always enjoy, working towards a common goal and preparing food for our loved ones really brings the family together. I also enjoy eating... and drinking. At the end of the day coming together to enjoy a meal you have collectively prepared really warms the heart. Happy Holidays!

  7. My favourite part of the holidays is the week before Christmas, attending and hosting festive dinners with different groups of friends and family! It is so nice to share the holiday spirit with people you love... it's nice going to other people's houses around Christmas to experience the kind of holiday food they enjoy, and it's also really great to host dinner at my parents' house and share our special holiday traditions!

  9. Like all special occasions in my family food plays an absolutely integral role. Ever since we moved from ireland we have made an irish pudding ever year, which has to be prepared in advance. Sometime in early december we would each be called down to the kitchen to stir the pudding batter and make a wish as the brandy was poured in. We would all try to keep our wishes a secret but ending up telling each other and trying to see whose wish was superior, or more morally sound! We never ate it though...only my dad ever did.It is always brought out on christmas day with great pomp and circumstance, it is lit on fire and we recite an irish saying. While plenty of the cuisine over the holidays is delicious it is the atmosphere that dining and baking creates that shape so many poignant memories. Happy christmas everyone!!!

  10. My favourite part is having everyone around as we put all the pieces together for the main event, never without some event to remember each year by like having a kitchen fire one year...never a dull moment

  11. Christmas Day in our house like many others is the big celebration day. 33 of us gather together for a big family dinner. While it is so yummy and fun to be with all of my aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins 33 people eating at least 3 courses makes for a ridiculous amount of dishes. It takes just as long to do the dishes every year as it does to cook the food. My sisters and I have always hated this so since I can remember on Christmas Eve we eat no mess foods so we can enjoy each other’s company instead of slaving away cleaning on a holiday. Every year on Christmas eve we bbq hamburgers , make a simple salad and have Christmas cookies and chips. This is almost no mess at all and lets us get on with all of our other traditions
